About The Artists
Lili Lennox
Raised on the Minnesota prairie in Morris, Lili Lennox draws inspiration from the vast backdrops she painted as a professional theatrical Scenic Artist. She is an honors graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, a veteran of the Minneapolis theatre community, and has been covering the walls of businesses and museums as a muralist since 2009. She has been awarded numerous public art commissions and was featured on an episode of Pioneer Public Television's Postcards, an award-winning art and culture program showcasing the people and communities of western Minnesota. Lili’s paintings feature highly saturated colors converging with the Minnesota landscape, depicting luminous trees and brooding skies infused with unconventional hues. Her collection serves as a jubilant exploration of light, form, and the transformative power that nudges the natural world toward the supernatural.

I studied two things in college — art and computer science. Which do you think paid better? 😂 After a career in technology, I’ve picked up my paintbrush again and found happiness and peace of mind. I grew up in the house of an artist. For my entire life I was surrounded by my mother’s paintings, drawings and art books. Needless to say, I picked up drawing at a young age. During art school I never had a lot of patience for painting. I found it too fussy and unforgiving. Nowadays, I have more wisdom and I’ve grown to love the craft of producing a finished painting. I paint original paintings on archival quality hardboard panels using the best quality acrylic paints. My subjects usually involve the natural world, but often include a hint that humans are there, too.

The core of my artistic journey is fueled by a desire to spread happiness and provide relief from the hustle and bustle of daily life. My paintings create spaces of upliftment, where viewers can pause, breathe, and feel the invigorating energy of nature. They are an invitation to feel the warmth of the sun, the gentle caress of a breeze, and the peace that nature inherently provides. I hope my artwork stirs in you the same emotions I experience in the moments that inspire me—a sense of joy, upliftment, and harmony with the natural world.

I am a painter and muralist fascinated by the way science fiction suggests a future for humanity transformed by major environmental changes and technological innovations. My invented landscapes ask viewers to consider unfamiliar places, such as the lines between true false, fiction and documentation, natural growth and urban development. I love color and texture. I paint wild animals, bright landscapes, and research equipment to create humorous tensions between humans and the rest of the natural world.
In the early 2000’s I worked in Antarctica for the National Science Foundation where I developed knowledge of important climate related experiments. Currently, I’m a member of the Twin Ports Art Science Collaborative and my work has been influenced by researchers and activists from the Lake Superior watershed and the SPRUCE climate change project in the Chippewa National Forest. Now, more than ever, the implications of human actions in a changing landscape are on the tip of everyone’s tongue. My recent paintings investigate scientific ideas and, most importantly, inspire audiences to learn what can be done to make positive changes.
My work has been exhibited at: The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, MA; The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MN; The Herbert Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY; The South Pole Station in Antarctica; St. Paul City Hall, St. Paul, MN; Växjö Konsthall (Museum of Modern Art) in Växjö, Sweden; ASROPA, Seoul, Korea; Karatay University in Konya, Turkey; Kalanirvana Gallery in Bhubaneswar, India.
